Where to Stay
Our Experience
The first time we visited Tamarindo we chose a hotel that was about 20 minutes drive from "town." It was a beautiful place to stay but we wouldn't recommend staying so far away. Staying in town is all the more important if you don't prefer to rent a car.
"Where will you stay?"
In case you're wondering, Joel and I will most likely stay at Sunrise Condos June 2-12, except for the night before and of the wedding (when we will stay at Diria, the wedding venue). We think Sunrise Condos offers the best location and units for the best price. It also has enough units that, theoretically, everyone in town for the wedding could stay there if they wished.
Our Recommendations (below)
The following hotels and vacation rentals are within a 5 minute walk to the beach. Most are also within 5 minutes walk to the wedding venue, but at the most they are 10 minutes walk from the wedding venue. I tried to include accommodation options at all price levels and with different types of amenities.

Looking For Something Else?
If you'd like to search for other places to stay, there are a few things to keep in mind. If a property is located more than a few hundred meters from the beach, it may be up a little hill or require making a couple turns so that all in all your walk to the beach could be 5-10 minutes. You'll want to ensure the hotel or vacation rental has air conditioning and, depending on how close it is to the beach, dedicated parking spots.
The following hotels & condos are <5 mins walk to beach
El Diria Hotel & Resort (Hotel)
Diria is the nicest ocean-front hotel/resort in Tamarindo and it is also where the wedding will be held. There are other hotels that may be more luxurious, but in terms of location, Diria is #1. It also has many different things to offer like spa services, good restaurants, and a small casino. From $174/nt before taxes
Sunrise Condos (VR)
Sunrise condos is a large condo complex with (in our opinion) the best value and the best location (just across the street from Joel's favorite surf shop and about a 5 minute walk to his favorite surf spot. An average 2-bedroom condo is $130-$190/night. An average 3-bedroom condo is $180 - 230/night. There are a few penthouse units that are nicer and of course a little more expensive. Sunrise condos (we've stayed there twice) all seem to have in-unit laundry, full kitchens, etc. The grounds has a beautiful pool with a waterfall and each unit has a dedicated parking spot, which is great. This is likely where we'll be staying.

Matapalo Condos at El Diria (VR)
Matapalo Condos is very similar to Sunrise Condos in amenities but is a bit nicer (and also a bit more expensive). It has a more central location and is closer to the wedding venue.

Private Room in Domus Kahuna Surf House (VR)
1 private room w/ a bunk bed. Please note this is a private room in a house that is also occupied by the owner. From the listing:
"Private room in a beautiful guest house with bunk bed, A/C, lockers, shared bathroom. Rooms are located on the first floor. All the common areas are at the ground floor, where you can use our fully equipped kitchen, the living room with a comfy couch and TV, and a gorgeous outdoor area, with hammocks and jacuzzi"

5BR Villa w/ Private Pool (VR)
5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms villa.
From the Listing:
"Jade Coast features 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths in the main house (2700 SF) and TWO detached Studio Apartments (350 SF each) with 1 full bath. There is a private pool, large covered porch and partial ocean view from the 2nd floor."
